Wooden Cross Percherons: Winter is keeping us busy!

Who are we?

I (Rebecca Jorgensen, or Becca, as my friends call me) have dreamed of working with horses since I was 12. The dream has changed a lot over the past several years. With much prayer and a willing heart, God has led me to what I believe is His will. Wooden Cross Percherons (though not there yet) is based on the thought of a small family-owned Percheron breeding/training farm with an outreach to kids, all kids!

In the immediate future, Wooden Cross is using "the boys" (Ben and Levi) on kid-based functions, from youth-groups to Jr fairs, plus our favorites-- one-on-one opportunities or mentoring with individual kids.

So now you know who we are and I hope that we can get to know you!

Winter is keeping us busy!

Happy New Year to you all!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I had a wonderful holiday and this Saturday is my last Christmas party...Flambeau Riders' horse club is having their Christmas party. As Vice-president, I was put in charge of the year-end slideshow! That is wrapped up and burned and I am very pleased with it.

The boys have been enjoying this cold weather. Unfortunately, we had a melt and now everything is covered in ice. I'm praying that we get some snow here pretty soon! Fun, fun!!

Well, I need to get back to work! I'll leave you with a Bible verse. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."

Beech Road Rocky, aka Ben, is a 2005 born, registered Percheron gelding. He is the rock and foundation of Wooden Cross Percherons as he has the claim of being my first Draft Horse! Ben LOVES to drive and really, REALLY, loves kids (actually, Ben loves everybody!) Due to some severe health issues, his endurance level isn't what it used to be but his heart is still as big as Texas! In 2009, Ben nearly, and by all means should have, died from a Banimine shot reaction. After 7 days of a 102-105 degree fever, the only lasting side-effect was that the outer half of both lungs was damaged to the point of no recovery. So, Ben has learned to live with 1/2 lung capacity as well as some lameness issues from genetics. But even with his problems, Ben has the ability to connect with so many people. If you want someone to listen to you, come on out and have a quality conversation with Big Ben!

Ben stands at 18.2 hh and weighs just over a 2000#'s.

Levi, a 2010 born registered Percheron gelding (registered as "Levi"), is the second part of our three-some! He is currently in training and has been a wonderful buddy for Ben....where you see one you will more than likely see the other! Though not as outgoing and friendly as Ben, Levi has more of the work mentality of the team. Very steady and business like, he is content to do his job, period, that's it! Levi has taught me quite a bit about training as I have had him since he was 3 1/2 months old and have been working with him since he was about two weeks! Yes, he was a cute little bugger! Levi also gave me the opportunity to show him as a yearling stallion as the weather was very uncooperative that year in getting him gelded! It was a wonderful experience and gave me a base to know what to look for in a stallion for the future! Levi will mature to be around 17.2-17.3 hh and will weigh in close to 2000#'s.

A quick word about myself: I am a dedicated follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am also a Homeschool graduate, K-12 with a diploma! Someday, if the Lord blesses me such, I hope to have a family to care for and a husband who loves me; but for now, I am ready to do God's work until that man comes around. (And no, I don't believe in dating. I believe in courtship. If you have questions about that, feel free to contact me.) I currently work at a Morgan Stable and give piano lessons.

I am also a girl of few words, so this sums-up my section!
